What’s In Your Wallet?: Hoarding Wealth In The Last Days

[Behind The Scenes: God Provided The Sound Effects]

Monica Dennington remembers shooting this classic Tic Toc short video:

“We were doing a shoot at Union Station in Kansas City. It was time to go, and Gary wanted to grab one more short clip before heading home. So, literally on the way out the door, he turned the camera on me, right there by the bus stop, and said, “Go!”

I heard approaching sirens as I started to speak, and suddenly fire trucks were turning onto the street we were on. Normally, we would wait for that kind of noise to pass before proceeding. But Gary gave me the sign to keep on rolling— even when firetrucks and emergency vehicles started pulling over to the curb just behind us.

When I got home and watched the video, I was struck by the sense of urgency created by those wailing sirens— the perfect backdrop to this warning in James that we usually ignore. God provided the sound effects— I’m just glad I listened to Gary and didn’t stop the take, even though I could barely hear myself talking by the end!”

“Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.”

James 5:1-3 (NIV)

Now, brothers and sisters, understand that this passage was not written to the world, but to rich Christians.

I want to ask you a question, brothers and sisters— a question that your pastor probably won’t ask you.

If the Word of God says that you’re going to be judged guilty for hoarding wealth in the last days, how much money do you want to have in your bank account when Jesus comes back?

[Jesus is coming. Got truth?]

“As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work.”

John 9:4
